ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I love ceramics because it gives me a socially acceptable outlet for my mudslinging and pyromaniac tendencies. Paperclay allows me to work without many of the traditional restrictions associated with ceramic sculpture. I tend to put pieces aside and let the idea percolate for a while. Ceramic architecture - fired adobe structures large enough to live in - is a concept I have long been intrigued with. My work should soon start to grow in that direction.

Most recently, I have been teaching myself to crochet. Thanks to YouTube, I now make hats and multicolor tapestries. I get together with my neighbors on Sunday afternoons to make doilies and sip rum punch.

Art can help build a community. I hope to create spaces that bring people together to contemplate specific cultural, historical, political questions. I want to help people visualize a world without war, a neighborhood without rape. If people can dream it, they can realize it. Art can inspire peace.

Born in the Heart of Babylon - Washington, DC will always be home. I spent carefree years traipsing through Europe and Africa: Louvain-la-Neuve, Beglium; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Nairobi, Kenya. And careless ones learning lots at Brown and Howard Universities. Lost part of my hearing working as a sound engineer and fried a few retinal cells playing with lasers and intelligent lights.

Now living in Grenada, happily infected with Small Island Syndrome. Building a small home and studio for myself: superadobe, ferrocement, low-cost, hurricane-proof. Hoping that art will be able to finance future travels.
